When we suffer a death in the family, a personal setback or otherwise become depressed, we often harm ourselves in some way to distract from the gloom or numbness we feel inside, whether it be through drinking, smoking, over-eating or picking arguments.

Self-harm

Where the despair is extreme, we sometimes resort to more desperate means like cutting, bruising, burning ourselves or punching walls. This type of self-harm is not a sign of weakness or ignorance, but a signal that we feel isolated, alone or deeply misunderstood.

Suicide

Sometimes however we become so overwhelmed by emotional pain that we think of suicide. Though we cannot always see it, there is usually a solution to most problems. It is important to give ourselves time to find the answers.

LifeLink Intervention Team

Self harm can be the only way a person feels able to stay in control of their life. It can be a way of punishing yourself, a 'cry for help' or a way of feeling 'real'.

We respect each individual's coping strategy and aim to provide immediate frontline, short term support to people who are:

a From North Glasgow
b 12 years and over
c In a crisis
d Self harming and/or at risk of suicide

We bring a mix of personal experience, professional experience and learned knowledge to the service.

LifeLink offers emotional, practical and therapeutic support as close to the initial point of contact as possible. We also aim to establish partnerships with statutory, voluntary and community services so that we can assist those at greatest risk.
